Mehfuz Ahmed is Co-Chair of Conservative Friends of Bangladesh (CFoB) and has been actively involved in the Conservative Party for many years. An experienced strategist and campaigner, he has been closely involved in the Party’s campaigns, governance and renewal at both local and national level.
In July 2008, Mehfuz made local political history when he was elected to represent Church Street Ward on Westminster City Council, becoming the first Conservative in 108 years to win the ward. The following year, he was appointed Deputy Cabinet Member for Children and Young People’s Services. He has also served as a Conservative Association Chairman and as an election agent in local and parliamentary elections.
Mehfuz has served on several boards and groups chaired by Conservative Party Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen. He has also worked closely with senior Party officials and Downing Street advisers on political engagement, community relations and UK–Bangladesh affairs during periods of Conservative government. He has supported leadership candidates and provided advice and support to parliamentarians on political campaigns and UK–Bangladesh relations, including the former Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Bangladesh.
Following the July 2024 General Election, Mehfuz was appointed by the Conservative Party Chairman to serve on a review board examining the election result and advising on the Party’s future renewal and direction.
Mehfuz is Co-Founder of Project Shapla, one of the Conservative Party’s international social action initiatives. Since 2011, he has led delegations of Conservative parliamentarians, candidates, and party activists to Bangladesh, supporting projects in education, health, sport and development while helping to strengthen political, social and trade links between the United Kingdom and Bangladesh.
In 2017, Mehfuz helped organise a delegation of Conservative MPs and volunteers to the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar. Supported by UNHCR and Bangladeshi government officials, the delegation witnessed the humanitarian crisis first-hand. Following the visit, Mehfuz briefed parliamentarians and helped raise awareness of the plight of Rohingya refugees and the need for continued humanitarian support.
Alongside his political and international work, Mehfuz is Chief Executive of a London-based organisation supporting local communities. His professional background spans the civil service, banking and financial services, and consultancy, alongside experience in real estate, property investment and development.
Mehfuz has served as a trustee of several charities and was a co-founding trustee of London Tigers. He has also served as a parent and local authority governor across primary, secondary and adult education.
